Compost Crocks for Your Countertop

black stoneware compost pail

Want something attractive to collect all those scraps you're going to compost? The compost pails from RSVP - in stoneware, bamboo, and stainless steel - are the ones you'll see all over. If they don't appeal, there are certainly other options.

blue ceramic compost crock

One you don't see as often is this glazed ceramic countertop compost crock, made in the USA by The Homer Laughlin China Company. There's a green version, too. Update on August 18, 2011: I'm no longer finding this product.

And if you'd like to support an individual artisan, you could get a compost crock, in one of 29 colors, from Architectural Ceramic Design in California. There's also another version with a handle. Update on July 10, 2104: I'm no longer finding the one with handles.

worm food compost bucket

This compost bucket made me smile. Update on August 18, 2011: This compost bucket came from Jamie Oliver; I'm no longer finding it.

Gosh, just last night I was thinking -- again -- that I'd like to finally get myself a compost crock! I've been re-using my empty milk cartons and yogurt containers all these years, which is good environmentally, but gets kinda funky after a while. Thanks, Jeri!

You're very welcome, Claire! I love it when that happens - when the timing of a post is just right!

Lately you've posted a bunch of small stuff I'd like to get: the Seletti toolbox, the nautical bucket and now the kitchen compost bin. The most amusing choice for me is the compost bin -- I don't have a garden! But, I figure if the economy doesn't pull itself together pretty soon and if the world political situation gets much creepier, the neighbors and I will be planting Victory Gardens on our patios! Thanks for the usual great tips.

Does anyone know where I can find the green compost tin, the one with the word "compostable" on it?

Anonymous, since the web site that I pointed to originally has closed, I've just updated the link to point to another site which sells that green compost bin.
