Christmas / Holiday Gift Ideas for Those with Cars - and Those Without
Continuing the search for gifts that won't create clutter, let's look at some with a car (or local transportation) theme. My prepaid parking meter card is something I'm thankful for when I go to San Francisco - much easier than remembering to have quarters on hand. Other cities have these, too, including San Diego, New York, and Savannah, Georgia.
As The Thoughtful Consumer suggests, you could give someone - especially "a student with an unreliable car"- a membership in an auto club.
As my local detailer reminds me, you can get someone the gift of auto detailing.
On a similar note, you could give a car wash gift card.
For those who prefer public transportation, you can give gift cards for that, too - for cities such as San Francisco and Chicago - and Shanghai. [via sfgate.com]
And while that Shanghai card is also good for taxis, that's not how things work in many other places. However, you could get someone the gift of prepaid cab fare for San Francisco, Ithaca, Houston, etc. [also via sfgate.com]

Thanks for the tip on the SF parking card. My Mom regularly drives a friend to ballet lessons there and could use this!
I'm glad that was helpful to you, Louise. A client of mine introduced me to the SF parking card, and now I always carry one. They used to be shipped for no extra charge, too - but now there's a small fee for that.
Thanks for the link, Jeri! All of these suggestions are great, as are your other uncluttered holiday gift ideas. ~ Maybe if I had a car wash gift card, my car would get washed more often!
