A chair with a knapsack on the side or the back? Now there's a clever way to keep the magazines, remotes or whatever close at hand! Russell & Mackenna upholstered furniture comes in your choice of 54 fabrics, so don't worry if polka dots (or white twill canvas) aren't your thing! Update on Feb. 10, 2015: This chair is no longer available.
I haven't found another upholstered chair with storage, but there are a number of options when you move to wooden chairs. This one was all over the design blogs a while ago. It comes from Usona Home, whose web site is down as I write; hopefully that's a short-term glitch. [via Apartment Therapy]
Here's another chair with a drawer, in a very different style. Update on Feb. 10, 2015: I'm no longer finding this chair.
The Orkney Furniture Maker has a number of chairs with drawers - this one with a hood is the most eye-catching, but they all look lovely.
And then there are the wonderful writing arm chairs made by Mark Soukup.
Chris Harter makes writing arm chairs, too.
This chair, with a drawer and a removable book rack, comes from Adrian Harris Woodcraft in New Zealand. Update on Feb. 10, 2015: I'm no longer finding this product.
You can get children's chairs with storage, too; Offi has a couple options. This chair has a mini-drawer.
And this chair has a lift-up seat.
And if you want some close-at-hand storage but aren't up to buying a new chair right now, you could get an armchair caddy. Over on Etsy, you can see some sewing organizers designed for sofas or armchairs.
