Tape Dispensers: Stylish, Practical, Whimsical - and Somewhat Weird
Tired of your boring tape dispenser? You can head over to my guest post on Krista Colvin's Organize in Style to see some of my favorite alternatives. But I've found some more since I wrote that, so here's the update.
The Abrollding tape dispenser from Troika, shown above, certainly looks cool, but some people don't like a tape dispenser that takes two hands to use. Update on Oct. 2, 2014: I'm no longer finding this product.
If you're one of those people, the heavy-weight tape dispenser from Black+Blum might suit you well. You can purchase it on the Black+Blum web site, or from Unica Home or Design Within Reach. It weighs 1 kg (2.2 lbs) and was designed to be used with one hand. Update on Oct. 2, 2014: This tape dispenser is no longer sold at Design Within Reach, but various other sites still sell it (along with Black+Blum itself).
Or you could go with this 3-pound dual tape dispenser! Update on April 4, 2010: Garrett Wade, which sold this tape dispenser, no longer carries it - and I'm not finding it anywhere else, either.
Moving on from extremely practical to extremely cute, we have the hedgehog and elephant tape dispensers. I wish the site selling them had better pictures; you can see the hedgehog on guy's Flickr page. Update on Oct. 30, 2010: These are no longer available.
I can't tell you exactly why I'm so taken with this heart-shaped tape dispenser. It's meant to be a promotional item; it's available from PromoRap in the U.S., and KB Design & Promotion Ltd. in the U.K.
Finally, you could always follow Dave's example and build your own from Lego bricks.
