6 Splendid Banks: Piggies and More

piggy bank, write on with chalk

I've seen many a cute piggy bank, and I'm pleased to have found even more - including the Chalk It To Me piggy bank. This ceramic bank even comes with chalk and a cloth wipe! [via Swiss Miss] Update on Oct. 17, 2014: I'm no longer finding this bank.

Monster Hinter piggy bank - pig with crown

I'm not a video game fan, so I'd never heard of Monster Hunter until I came across the Monster Hunter piggy banks, and got curious. But who needs to know about the game? The banks - this king pig, and the sheep pig - are just darn cute. Update on July 9, 2012: I'm no longer finding these.

money box, china

There are some lovely banks made for young children - but who says their use has to be limited to kids? Mini Moderns has four different bone china money boxes. [via Babygadget] Update on July 9, 2012: I'm not finding this one any more.

piggy bank - elephant

And Tiffany has banks in the form of pigs, bunnies, and elephants.

piggy bank, blue

For something oriented to adults, take a look at the handmade piggy banks by Suzanne Crane, which seem to combine "cute" and "lovely." They're available in seven different glaze/trim color combinations.

The skull kind of keeps it all in perspective, doesn't it?

Jeri, have I already suggested that you do a related post on Tzedakah boxes, or pushkes? They are boxes -- some very ornate -- intended for saving for charitable purposes. A nice, slightly different angle on savings. (Probably won't find any pigs for pushkes, eh? )

Claire, I don't think you've suggested that; if you did, I don't remember it. But I think it's a splendid idea!

I have long been a fan of Terramundi money pots, but as I recall, you have to break it to get the money out, which seems a dreadful shame!
You can see some examples here.

Struggler, I agree that the pots are quite wonderful. I mentioned them back in this old post.

I like the chalkboard piggy. I can see a row of them each with their purpose on them. Maybe even in different sizes according to the purpose?? A big one for 401k, a smaller one for car, etc. Maybe that's carrying it too far?

Thanks for the post on piggy banks - we had an unfortunate accident with our large pink pig bank. He was hit by a spice jar (Cumin was the culprit) in early May and cracked in two.

We have almost finished our grieving and will be searching for a new piggy. Not that it will ever be the same....we had lots of great years together.

Thanks for moving us forward in the process.
