7 Ways to Organize and Display Your Earrings

earring rack made from badminton racket

If you're looking for a good way to display your earrings, you could get clever like Laurence and create cool-looking earring storage from old badminton rackets. [photo used with permission]

Or you could buy a lovely earring organizer from Joanna Price of Mirkwood Mercantile — made from a recycled picture frame, decorative paper for the backing, and fiberglass mesh. Joanna has a number of other designs available, too.

The WOW earring organizer also uses the mesh idea — but unlike the others, this organizer could hang in your closet.

wood earring tree

Of course, you don't need to go with mesh. Here's a lovely earring tree from Barclay Fine Woodworking. This is the 36-pair size; there are also smaller trees, to hold either 16 or 24 pairs — and larger ones, to hold 48 or 60 pairs. The trees are available in cherry, walnut and curly maple.

So many earring racks are made of wood — and while I love wood, it was also nice to see this one made of steel, from Reed Creek Welding. It holds 32 pairs of earrings, and comes in 15 different colors — and can also be made with one color fading into another.

For a very different look, you could get a ceramic earring holder from Barbara Lund; these holders come in a wide range of colors, and have 50 holes.

And finally, I just had to show you the earring stands made from cheese graters.

  1. I love the re-use/repurposing of some of these designs -- turning a sporting racket and cheese grater into earring displays is brilliant! I commented before that I have made my own out of an old picture frame and wire mesh (although I like Joanna's idea of putting pretty paper in the background) and these days I use one made of a piece of lace clamped into an embroidery hoop that I picked up used for 49 cents. But the wall-mounted designs are not easy to use for post-style earrings, whereas the free-standing designs are better suited to that function.

But what really got me drooling was the ceramic vase/earring holder. I wonder if you really need something with holes in it, or if you could use a favorite vase/container with a thin-enough lip...

  2. I use a frame with window screen in it sitting on my dresser. It works great for posts (I can reach around back for the earring backs) and hooks. What I need to find is something good for hoops and clip-ons. That metal one and a thinner version of the wood one have potential, as do some in the past posts you've linked to. I think I could even make something similar myself, with some of the stuff stashed away, now that I've seen some ideas. thanks!

  3. This comment just came in by email, and I wanted to share it:

I use a domed wire mesh food cover which I hang on my wall near my dressing table. It holds oodles of earings and I love it.

  4. Claire, interesting observations on posts vs. wires. I never wear post-style earrings, so I tend to forget about them.

And if you wind up using a vase or some such for earrings, please let me know and send along a photo!

And JustGail, I'm glad to have given you some ideas!
