TV Lifts: Hide Your Flat-Screen TV When Not in Use

TV lift cabinet

Last night, someone asked me about TV lifts - and I said sure, I could point him to some nice-looking options. I've written about these lifts before, but three more options have come to my attention since then. One of these is Import Advantage, which sells TV lift cabinets in a range of styles.

Another company whose TV lift furniture caught my eye was Changing Wood, in the U.K.

And then there's this spectacular showcase / TV cabinet from Andrew Pitts, FurnitureMaker. I'd never have guessed this piece conceals a TV lift - but there's a picture of it on his web site! You can see another lovely piece by Pitts on CustomMade, where I first found his work.

  1. Jeri! I want one! And I don't even have the telly! I have a tiny old school teev! But I adore custom storage like this that hides a potentially time-sucking and energy-draining item like this.

Thanks for the good info (as usual).

    Cheers!

  2. i have to say, when you have such a modern tv, it seems odd to put it on an old fashioned cabinet. Ideally, they should be attached to a wall, but if not, a simple stand would be better.

  3. We don't have a TV, for a variety of reasons. However, if I did have one, I think it would definitely have a cabinet like one of these. I love the "out of sight, out of mind" concept. My biggest danger is watching too much cr... garbage, which I never really meant to watch, because I flicked in on "just to see what's on". If it's hidden away, I think I'd be far more likely to be considered in my viewing.
Not quite enough to tempt me to want a TV though :-)

  4. I also like the Artwork covers for flat screens that are up on the wall. Some are here:

  5. Allison, I agree the artwork covers can be a great alternative; I wrote about them recently. But the person who asked about the TV lift doesn't have the space to do a wall mounting.

  6. Aaron, not everyone has the space to do a wall mounting - or likes that look. And not everyone likes the look of a simple stand - just as you don't like the look of these cabinets. :-) To each his/her own!

  7. Lissanne and Sue, I'm glad I'm not the only one who oohs and aahs over these cabinets - while not even owning the TV to use with it!

  8. The lifts are great when you can place the console table at the foot of the bed. Great post, as always.
