Wastebaskets and Trashcans, Revisited
Wastebaskets are one of an organizer's best friends, and I've written about them a lot - but I keep finding more. The trash mug is one of the cleverest products I've seen in a while - the removable mug top lets you easily separate recyclables from the other trash. But I've seen a lot of other notable wastebaskets, too.
For a different green idea, take a look at these wastebaskets made from "recycled cotton rags leftover from the apparel industry." [via Apartment Therapy]
Here's a very different wastebasket (and laundry bag). [via Swiss Miss] Update on Nov. 21, 2011: I'm no longer finding this one for sale.
And here's a pretty wastepaper basket, unlike any others I've seen. Update on Sept. 18, 2009: This basket has disappeared from the web site where I found it.
Here's a very modern waste basket.
And here's a simple elegant cherry wastebasket. (You can also get one in birdseye maple.)
Rustic isn't usually my style, but these metal wastebaskets appealed to me. Update on Nov. 21, 2011: The site where I found these is no longer carrying them.
Zany in New Zealand has some interesting waste bins. This one "comes flat pack and clicks together in a jiffy." (OK, this one is interesting for those of us who remember graph paper. If you don't, some of the other ones might still appeal to you.) Update on Dec. 27, 2010: This particular wastebasket is no longer available, but Zany still has others.
The lovely hand-woven baskets from the Peterboro Basket Company, in a range of sizes, are certainly worth a look.
And finally, how about the Wesco Spaceboy?

I thought I'd mention that I picked up a couple of galvanized metal flower buckets years ago and use them in the bathrooms. I paid about twenty dollars total for both of them.
ReplyDeleteSearching for a link with photo, I found this one where they're selling for $140.85 each!
Now, that's inflation!
Cynthia, thanks for the idea. That appears to be the price for a case of six, so the price isn't nearly as bad as it seems at first glance. (It's not the best of web designs, since you need to scroll to the very end to discover how the pricing works.)
ReplyDeleteOh, silly me! This is what happens when my available attention units are fewer than the amount required for the task!
ReplyDeleteI know we're in the middle of a nasty financial crisis, but I'm glad that it hasn't resulted in $140.85 for a flower bucket!
