Randy Pausch (known for The Last Lecture) died on Friday, and I've been reading the tributes and watching yet more videos - and crying.
But I thought he'd rather we listen to what he wanted to teach us, so here's one more bit of Randy wisdom, from his interviews with Diane Sawyer:
I've never found anger to make a situation better. And right now, I've got a finite amount of time and I can spend that time angry or I can spend that time doing something productive and worthwhile, and having fun.So let's all go do something worthwhile, and have some fun, in remembrance of Randy.
(Also worth noting, from the Carnegie Mellon University web site: "The family requests that donations on his behalf be directed to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 2141 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 7000, El Segundo, CA 90245, or to Carnegie Mellon's Randy Pausch Memorial Fund, which the university will use primarily to support continued work on the Alice project.")

When I heard the news, I was really, really saddened. He was such an inspirational, brave man. I can't imagine how his family is feeling now but what an amazing way to live out the end of his days. Joy, acceptance and happiness with your "lot in life" can indeed do wonders.
ReplyDeleteHe has been a huge inspiration on our lives too. hug those you love close.
Cuddly Family, to quote Randy: "We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand." He sure gave us all a great example of how to do that.
ReplyDeleteHi Jeri
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are featuring Randy Pausch - I was fortunate to have a few excellent teachers like him in my life and they are the ones that make lasting change in the way you see the world - even if you don't use the class material (guess Randy would call that the "head fake")
Keep following your passion with your awesome organizing and blogging.

Hi Joy,
ReplyDeleteI couldn't write about anything else yesterday; my heart was too full of sadness about Randy.
He's inspired so many people; if I can get even one more person to listen to his talks and also get inspired, I'd be very happy.
