Once you've sorted through your purses and have carefully decided which to save, you can then look at how best to store them.
Here are some products meant specifically for purse storage. (Of course, you could easily use non-purse-specific options - a drawer in a dresser, an under-bed storage box, simple hooks, etc.)
1. The Hanging Purse Organizer from KangaRoom. Update on Jan. 3, 2010: This product is no longer on the KangaRoom web site.
2. The 8-Pocket Clear Vinyl Handbag File available at The Container Store
3. The Shoe & Handbag Storage Cube, also at The Container Store Update on Dec. 1, 2009 - The Container Store no longer has this product.
4. Another type of clear purse box

5. The Park-A-Purse Organizer
6. The Purse Rack from Davison, available at Hanger City and many other places. Update on April 5, 2012: Hanger City has been folded into Organize.com, which doesn't seem to carry this product, but Organize-It is one place you can buy it.

ReplyDeleteI am just going to pretend I didn't see this sentence...It hurts me! I can throw anything away, but purses? I just can't let go.

ReplyDeleteSo sorry to have hurt you! I'm personally at the other end of the spectrum - give me a few good purses (one or two for daily use, one for more elegant occasions) and I'm set. But I know I'm in the minority.
And I'm glad you like those hampers; I was quite taken with them myself, and it's nice to know I'm not alone.

Love the see-through plastic hanging one! I have the world's darkest closet (no inexpensive way to light it adequately, even using those stick-on lights), so anything that lets me see what's inside is a big help. I don't have enough bags to fill it up, but it would be a good place to stash other items, too.

These are all great if you have space. My closet is packed. I bought very large Rubber Maid crates on wheels to store all my bags (and boots out of season). It works fine, but still I need something for the purses I use often. Yet, there's no more room in my closet! Hey!!! The ceiling!!! They hang pots & pans, right? Maybe I'll design a ceiling system! ; )
ReplyDeleteOur closet is a huge wire style organizing system that allowed only using containers to store my wife's purses or just setting them on the shelves. So I came up with the idea of using decorative shower curtain hangers which I flipped upside down and stuck through the upper wire shelf so she could hang her purses up in neat rows. She loves it and it works well. Thought I might share that with you guys along with Jeri's great tips.
